Want to learn "real" karate?  Located just seven miles north of Dalton, Georgia, Tenchi Family Karate is committed to providing you and/or your child with an unprecedented education in the classical art of Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate.  We are considered one of the finest karate schools in the state because of our affiliation with Morio Higaonna Sensei and the International Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate Federation (I.O.G.K.F.).  We adhere to the traditional teachings of Chojun Miyagi Sensei as passed down to Morio Higaonna Sensei by his teacher An'ichi Miyagi Sensei.  Our instructors are internationally certified to instruct, carry CPR certification, and are well respected in the community.  They are also required to train regularly.  The philosophy of the I.O.G.K.F. is, if you don't train you should not teach.  Senior Instructor Brock Sensei trains regularly at gasshuku's worldwide with Morio Higaonna Sensei and other high ranking and well respected instructors such as Lou Angel, Tetsuji Nakamura, Miko Peled, and Jeff Speakman.  Therefore, the instruction that you receive is of the highest quality.   All of our instructors take pride in teaching and sharing their gift of karate with you.  Our traditional kata (forms) are our foundational basis.  We will preserve the traditional teachings of Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate while building on that foundation.

Our instruction and training promotes and encourages:

  • Honor, Courage and Perseverance
  • Mental Discipline
  • Self-Control In All Situations
  • Improved Self-Esteem
  • Mental and Physical Confidence
  • Goals and Achievements
  • Attitude of Service
  • Stress Relief
  • Coordination and Motor Skills Improvement
  • Fitness For Life
  • Concentration and Focus
  • Community Involvement
  • Solid Self Defense Skills
  • Compassion Towards Others
  • Family Fun
  • Improved Grades in School

By becoming a part of our family you will automatically become affiliated with Morio Higaonna Sensei and the
International Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate Federation (I.O.G.K.F.).  This is the most prestigious Goju Ryu karate organization in the world at seventy-five thousand plus members strong and has representation in over forty-five countries.  It will also associate you with Lou Angel and the National College of Martial Arts International (NCMA), the Georgia Karate League (GKL) and the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).  You will enjoy opportunities to participate in A.A.U. district, regional, and national competitions as well as Junior Olympic competitions.  You will also attend training seminars (Gasshukus) and be exposed to like-minded individuals and dojos worldwide.  Your rank will be recognized internationally and without question.

Our curriculum is structured to international standards which allows you the opportunity to walk into any I.O.G.K.F. affiliated dojo in the world and train.  Our curriculum is written so that you know exactly what you must accomplish to be promoted to each rank level.  The student area of this site contains a bible of knowledge which will be shared freely with you when you choose to become a member of our Tenchi karate family.

Please continue browsing the website and learn more about our school. There is a link above and on the left side of the page that will navigate you to our program page.  Thank you for taking the time to stop in.  We look forward to having you as a member of our karate family.

Respectfully,

Brock Sensei

News and Calendar:

NEWS:

In early March the Okinawa Prefectural Government decided on having one united organization for all Okinawan Karate. There were four major karate organizations in Okinawa. The IOGKF was a part of Okinawa Karate Kobold Renee. But now these four organizations have joined together to become one united organization. The Prefectural Governor, Mr. Nanaimo (his father was a student of Chojun Miyagi Sensei) accepted Higaonna Sensei's position as Chairman of the newly formed organization.  Chairmen from the other organizations became vice-chairmen. Higaonna Sensei has been working actively to make this happen. He is very pleased about this new development. This means that all traditional Okinawan karate organizations and dojos will work together to promote the arts, and in turn will receive more support from the Okinawan and Japanese governments. As you may know, the IOGKF is the largest organization of all the traditional Okinawan karate organizations. Higaonna Sensei is well respected among the Okinawan karate society for his technical ability, depth of knowledge, and humanity.

This is a great news for all traditional karate-ka.
